It was Simon Gawesworth that introduced us to Thomas & Thomas spey Rods at the 2002 Sandy River Spey Clave. Simon works for Rio Line Products and is one of the most respected two-hand fly rod casters in the USA. He uses Thomas & Thomas Rods for his demonstrations and casting classes.
I bought two of the Thomas & Thomas models and have put them through the mill under a wide variety of field conditions. The DH1307-3 has been used primarily as a floating line rod on the Deschutes and John Day Rivers. It has also been used with sinking tip lines and all sizes of flies including tube flies

and string leeches. As one would expect, it throws smaller flies easier. The DH1409-3 has been used on the Sandy, Clackamas and Klickitat as a sinking tip line rod. It handles all normal steelhead flies up to 3 1/2 inches long with no problem. The largest fish landed with each rod so far has been 35". The actions of both rods might be best termed as fast and progressive. The curves of both rods are smooth with no flat spots. These actions are easy to use when playing fish. Recently I borrowed a DH1509-3 from a friend of mine. It might have slightly more range than the DH1409-3. It also has slightly more weight. It is hard

to choose between the two. I probably sound like we are blowing our own horns and that we are the only ones who have discovered T&T Spey rods. Not so.
Many of the finest spey casters use them.
