The two rods furtherest from the lens in the picture are TFO spinning rods.  They are our travel/teaser rods at Barra de Navidad, Mexico.  These teaser rods are rigged with fast retrieve spinning reels and 25-pound test monofilament line.  Hookless plugs are trolled or cast, to bring billfish, dorado or rooster fish close enough to the boat so flies may be cast to them.  This takes a three person team; one person running the boat, a teaser and a caster.  By IGFA rules, to set a record, the boat must be out of gear when the fly is cast.  In the case

of billfish and dorado, a plug is trolled and when the fish is trying to grab the plug it is reeled to the boat.  The boat is taken out of gear, the fish chases the plug within casting range of the fly angler and then the plug is pulled from the water and the fly is cast in front of the fish and retrieved in an enticing manner.  This is an operation that takes a lot of coordination from all of the parties involved.  It is also a lot of fun for every one involved.  We found that very few Mexican panga captains have teaser rods, so I decided to carry my own while traveling.  Boy was I in for a surprise.  Almost no manufacturers make heavy duty spinning rods that will go inside luggage.  These 7-foot heavy duty 3-piece spinning rods made by TFO, break down to approximately the same length as 9-foot 4-piece fly rods.  They work okay for teaser rods. Now TFO has introduced a 9-foot, four piece model that might work even better.
