There is nothing like experience to guide you. If you have been there before, the road is more clear. Fly fishing for salmon and steelhead is easier when you have the right tools. That's why Steve Rajeff spends a lot of time on the water, so he can test G. Loomis fly rods against fish like the Chinook pictured at left. Experience like this is invaluable to rod design. G. Loomis is determined to make your chilly fall days full of fighting big fish instead of fighting with your tackle. G. Loomis designs rods that will enable you to perform effortless, accurate casts at all ranges and are durable enough to survive combat with large athletic fish and |
| the elements that they live in. On this page G. Loomis steelhead and salmon fly rods start at #7 line weight and go all the way up to the #10 weight. These are the power machines, made to out-perform the powerhouses in the river, which translates into advantage angler. G. Loomis exclusive GLX rods are 25% lighter than rods of comparable strength, allowing you to throw monster casts with large flies all day long. G. Loomis GL3 rods are lightweight, forgiving. and extremely powerful, making them undoubtedly the best performance value on the river today. If you are a young fishing guide or a company the builds premium fly rods, you can never have enough older, successful advisers. Pictured at left is Frank Moore, dean of the North Umpqua River with professional fishing guide Dean Finnerty. Looks like they are having fun testing some G. Loomis fly rods. Frank certainly doesn't need a guide on the Umpqua. He was born in Oregon in 1923 and caught his first trout 77 years ago at the rip old age of 4. Frank started guiding the North Umpqua in 1945 and he and his wife Jeanne, built the famous Steamboat Inn, in 1957. |
| Here's what Frank says about G. Loomis rods, "Over the years I have field tested fly rods for many manufactures until trying one built by Gary Loomis, years ago. It was the finest casting rod I had ever used, and still is to this day. They cast so easy for me at my young tender age I call them my Geriatric rods. I was put on Loomis Pro Staff then, and at the ripe old age of 81 I still work the Sportsman Shows in the Northwest in the Loomis booths, test rods for them, and wade and cast on rivers all over the country, as well as teaching fly casting in many places and to many people." |

| GLX is a powerful and lightweight rod for casting bigger or weighted flies in the wind. With enough butt power for fighting and lifting fish to the boat at the end of the fight, it will not tire you out casting either. The GL3 has a slightly stiffer tip than the GLX and is especially good at repetitive casting when a portion of the WF head is outside the tip to help load the rod. | |||||||
