Its
the age-old formula... find the moving water and find the fish. Tides
and currents - they're the keys to saltwater fly fishing. Where current
meets still water or dissimilar currents converge, edges are created and
the bait is trapped. It s these edges that fly fishers seek... the
"crosscurrents" where fish and fly meet! |

Saltwater flyfishing is highly dependent on bait, cover, current and tides. Where currents cross - creating rips, seams and turbulence - is the playground for saltwater anglers. It's where the baitfish find sanctuary and the game fish come to dine. It's where the depth changes on an otherwise boring flat that hides a big snook as he waits for unsuspecting prey. It's how we look at the world of saltwater fly fishing and it's what CrossCurrent is all about! It's the culmination of hours of research... on the water and in the factory, creating rods with incredible lifting power and fast tapers that help you make tight, aerodynamic loops so you can punch out unbelievably long cast after long cast, even in a stiff breeze. It's the beautiful appointments we've added to these rods to make them as enjoyable to look at as they are to fish. It's the light weight, the power and the castability that makes our CrossCurrent Series the most dynamic, most popular saltwater fly rods in the universe. There are seven rods in the CrossCurrent GLX family, all 4-piece travel rods, featuring Recoil (nickel-titanium) guides and anodized aluminum reel seats with our "yin yang" cutouts exposing a graphite insert with G.Loomis' iconic Skeleton Fish logo. Each rod comes in a soft, protective rod sock and travel case.

A few years ago, during visits to the Florida Keys, we noticed a lot of guides rinsing off their rods and reels back at the docks and then carrying them up to their truck to go home. We asked them why they didn't take them apart and they said, "We never take them apart. No need to... we store them with reels and lines on." That's when it hit us! If these guys were happy to leave the rods assembled, even going so far as to glue the ferrules together, why not make a one-piece rod and avoid the ferrules all together? We used our "fiber blend technology" to create a high performance blank that has an incredible combination of light weight, strength and power. They're light, sensitive and sneaky powerful. If you're one of those fanatical saltwater flats anglers that doesn't require the convenience of a travel rod, this is the innovative thinking you've come to expect from G.Loomis. Each rod comes in a protective rod sock. Pro-1 CrossCurrent fly rods are the buzz of the saltwater fly market. Just another way we help make each day you spend on the water memorable!

G. Loomis Standard CrossCurrent 4-Piece Rods

Whether you choose G.Loomis standard CrossCurrent rods for back ups or for your budget, they are outstanding fishing tools. You might call them "power tools" for the flats. We use our "fiber blend technology" to combine the benefits of strength and stiffness of different materials to build a powerful alternative for anglers at any level. Now in there new 4-piece configuration, these sticks are every bit as smooth, as powerful and as efficient as any fly rod on the market. Blending different materials allows us to take advantage of the unique properties of each without overbuilding the blank. Some fibers lend themselves to extra strength for extreme lifting power while others add stiffness for faster recovery to keep the rod tracking true for long and accurate casts. Another advantage is the price. These rods are about 30% less expensive than their GLX counterparts. They aren't as light, but they're everything an angler expects in a saltwater fly rod, with power to spare. We call them our game changer! This is what our standard CrossCurrent Series is all about. Each rod comes in a soft, protective rod sock and travel case.

When it comes to saltwater fly fishing, anglers face many challenges. Whether it's billfish or tuna in the blue water or big stripers from the beach, we make the rod. It's not a matter of finesse for the pelagics. You don't need to make long casts or cover a lot of water. You troll teasers to get the fish excited and up close, then you make the cast. Imagine a big striped marlin, all lit up, trying to find the teaser you just drug across his nose. The only thing he sees is a big streamer, looking a lot like the baitfish he just tried to eat... he grabs it, and it's a battle you'll never forget! Don't forget to pull as hard as you can. The deck-hand WILL yell at you. He's not the one with numb forearms and aching wrists. Landing monsters like this on the fly is a lot of work, but is extremely rewarding! Now if you can just manage to stay on your feet for the photo. Did we mention they pull hard too? Now... let's move to the beach. Suppose you're watching a mob scene in the surf with big stripers and blues blitzing just out of range. No matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to get that fly far enough out there to hook up. Maybe it's the wind - it's almost always breezy on the beach. It might be that big fly is a little too much for your single-hand rod or it might be the waves. What do you do? Grab one of our Cross Current Beach rods and get amongst 'em. They give you incredible casting range and when you hook a big striper, you'll be amazed how fast you can get him on the sand. This is power personified, plus it's a heck of a lot of fun. We know it's a lot to ask of a fly rod, but it's what we do. We make light, tough, cast far in the wind, power fly rods. It's simple really! They need to get your fly to the fish, fight him fairly (or not) and come back in the same number of pieces you started with. Game on!!
