Lamson Fly Fishing Reels have a long history at: The Fly Fishing Shop

At The Fly Fishing Shop we use the products we sell.  We have lots of experience with Lamson fly fishing reels and can answer your questions about them factually.  Lamsons are continually being improved and today Lamson is producing the best reels they have ever made.  Incremental improvements such as: improved seals, stainless steel bearings and Hard Alox™ finish have taken a superior design to a new level good looks and dependability.  We like 'em!
We recently went to Belize for bonefish & permit. Figuring that the new size 3.5X would be perfect for 8-10 weight rods, we took five of them and five matching spools. The tides were wrong for permit, but bonefish abounded, and some fairly large tarpon were active. My first tarpon was about 60-pounds and the last one taped out at 103. Not big as tarpon go, but our heaviest reel weighed less than six ounces. The 3.5X Litespeed Reels performed perfectly in the salt, and when they returned home, some migrated to the Spey rod collection where they will reside until the next saltwater trip in late June.

11/21/12 this Belize River Tarpon estimated at 103-pounds,
was landed by Mark Bachmann with a Lamson Litespeed 3.5X reel. The reel survived with no difficulty, but the rod was broken into several pieces.

11/20/12 this Belize River Tarpon estimated at 8-pounds,
was landed by Patty Barnes with a Lamson Litespeed 3.5X reel. All of our river tarpon fishing was done with fast sinking lines. We caught many small tarpon from 5-18 pounds.

11/20/12 this Belize River Snook estimated at 8-pounds,
was landed by Mark Bachmann with a Lamson Litespeed 3.5X reel. Snook like this are brawlers.

11/18/12 this Belize Snook estimated at 4-pounds,
was landed by Mark Bachmanns with a Lamson Litespeed 3.5X reel. My first snook in many years. The lightness of the 3.5X aided accurate target casting.

These (5) Lamson Litespeed 3.5X reels were used on rods from 8-weight to10-weight. They landed fish from 1-pound to 103-pounds

11/06/12 this Belize bonefish estimated at 2-pounds,
was landed by Mark Bachmanns with a Lamson Litespeed 3.5X reel. Bone fish up to five pounds were caught.

02/06/11 Sandy River, Oregon, a Waterworks Lamson Vanquish 10 performs as the perfect Spey Reel.

6/26/12 this Sandy River Spring Chinook estimated at 14-pounds,
was landed by Russel Schmidt with a Waterworks Lamson Vanquish #10 reel.

74/12 this Sea of Cortez Bull Dorado estimated at 57-pounds,
was landed by Mark Bachmann with a Waterworks Lamson Vanquish #10 reel.
