Steelhead Tube Flies |
|
Steelhead Tube Fly - Fly Tiers Roundtable - 11/23/03. |
| Tube Flies Are Still Gaining In Popularity | |
|
Tube flies are more
popular than ever because they are proven steelhead catchers. Tube
flies get a lot of strikes and they put a high percentage of fish on the
beach. Tube flies are extraordinarily durable because you can
change a damaged hook for a new one. |

Tying Steelhead Tube Flies |
|
Tube Flies have gained popularity for many kinds of game fish. Recently this type of fly has become extremely popular for winter steelhead. Originally designed so that a smaller hook could be used with a large fly to cut injury to wild steelhead, this configuration also proved itself as a way to land a higher percentage of fish. The November 23 Winter Months Round Table features all of the latest tubes, tube fly tying vises and materials used in the production of the local favorites. |

|
| Tubes for tying tube flies can be made from brass, aluminum or plastic. Soft plastic tubes can accommodate the eye of a small short shank hook. This configuration hooks fish quickly, yet decreases the injury that sometimes occurs using larger hooks. |
