Linn is about 35-minutes from Welches, OR) |

In 1999, Scott Richmond started
Westfly (www.westfly.com), which
has grown into one of the most popular and respected fly fishing
destinations on the internet. While Westfly began as a for-profit
website, it soon re-invented itself as a non-profit corporation that
informs and educates western fly anglers, builds a strong interactive
community, and raises money for fish conservation projects.
Before turning to writing, Scott
did sales and marketing of computers for 15 years, and before that was
an engineer.
He says about the photo above: "The photo's kind of old. I no longer have the glasses, drift-boat, or haircut, and the reel is for sale. The number showing on the drift boat is ironic, since it's my age four days after the book signing. Usually I'm on the other side of the camera, so I don't have much in the way of hero shots." "I saw him four days ago and he hasn't changed much", MB |

Fishing
Oregon's Deschutes River By: Scott Richmond Clear, concise, well organized, well rounded. If you read this book, you will have a better understanding of the lower 100 miles of Oregon's world famous Deschutes River. The first thing that will impress you is seeing the river through the lens of Scott's camera. He did the lion's share of the photography and also enlisted the help of Brian O'Keefe and Jim Schollmeyer. The pen & ink drawings by Lora Crestwick are charming and informing. This book gives you the inside info you need to be safe, comfortable and productive while boating, fishing and camping on the river. It is complete with a hatch guide, collection of productive fly patterns, river maps, and a code of conduct that will keep you at peace with other people in the canyon. |

| Have you checked your leader? | |
![]() |
Your leader is the
weakest link between you and your trophy. Many fine fish have been lost to leaders which were warn out or just plain too
old. It is best to discard all your leaders and tippet material
every other year. Leader and tippet which is 3-years old is often
brittle and will not hold knots well. It is best to change your
most often used tippet material every year. New tippet material is
pliable and strong. |
| Climax Salmon/Steelhead Leaders |
|
|
These leaders are designed with
heavier butts to turn over larger flies and are made from stiffer
material to be more abrasion resistant. They are the only knotless
tapered leaders which have unconditionally passed the steelhead tests by
our customers and staff. They are also very good for salt water flats
fishing. |

A
tribute to Maxima MaMa: Maxima is still the most popular steelhead tippet and leader making material in the Pacific Northwest. The reason is, trust. Experienced anglers have grown to trust Maxima. Patty Barnes uses Maxima "Clear" exclusively for steelhead fishing. Does she know what she's doing? None of the guys who know her want to follow her through a steelhead run. For that matter there are several guys who don't want her following them through a steelhead run either. She's picked more than one pocket for a fish or two left behind. Respected on any piece of water she fishes, this woman is also known in Belize as Barracuda Patty. The hatchery steelhead she is holding at left is the first of two nearly identical fish that were landed 15-miutes apart. Both were harvested for an up-coming barbeque. It's handy to have an "Old Lady" that can take care of herself. Love ya' PB, MB |
|
Maxima Tippet Material. Many anglers believe that there is no stronger more durable leader material than Maxima. Period. It has gained fanatical following of the most renowned trout, bass, steelhead, salmon and saltwater anglers. This is because of its 100% constancy and total reliability. Maxima has a high durability finish that avoids nicks and abrasions. This finish also helps to control knot slippage, which is a major factor in knot breakage. |

Chameleon Maxima Chameleon is very hard and abrasion resistant tippet material. Its dark brown color is infrared sensitive to blend with the surroundings when submerged. It is best when fishing deep. For those reasons it has become the most popular salmon and steelhead tippet. |

Clear Maxima Clear has the same properties as Chameleon except it doesn't contain the infrared sensitive dye. It has a non-reflective finish that makes it nearly invisible under most light and water conditions. Clear is a good choice for all situations where a dark colored tippet is not appropriate such as surface steelhead or saltwater flats fishing. |
