Because of overwhelming demand, The Fly Fishing Shop is once again offering single and multi day drift boat trips on the Deschutes River. This program will be administered by Josh Linn. Josh has many years fishing and guiding our local rivers as well as several seasons guiding for the prestigious Sandy River Lodge in Alaska. Josh's steelhead fishing skills are well known and we have put together this program to take advantage of what appears to be a premier run of steelhead on the Deschutes River during the fall season 2008. Current Economics The bottom line is this: Metals prices are skyrocketing. Vinyl and similar products are petroleum based, and, well I am sure you get the idea. | As fate would have it, the wife acquired a new vehicle
and felt that we needed to make a “road trip.” Just like always
keeping an eye out for rising fish, I pounced on the opportunity. “I
should take you to Sisters (Oregon). What a great little town! Shops
of every description, the countryside is spectacular, good roads, and
we can make a giant loop out of the drive.” I waited for that TUG on
the line before mentioning the headwaters of the Metolius river, the
deli at the Camp Sherman store and, uh, the Bamboo Rod Fair that just
happens to be there at Camp Sherman. Well, we went, and she did let
me stop at the rod fair. Can’t complain about that I guess. It was a nice event, in a really nice location (to say the least). Met a few folks I did not know before this and some that I had only heard rumors of. Cast some very nice rods. I was able to overcome the urge to own a new one for some reason or another (did I mention the wife was there?). Perhaps another time…. This event is more of a “Country Fair” setting. Laid back attitude. Craftspeople more than willing to talk about anything fishy and it seemed that most everyone knew everyone else. Really nice event, well worth going to and perhaps you can find out for yourself what “Bamboo” rods are all about. I came away with the feeling that they are still making them like they used to, and I was grateful to know there are people keeping all phases of fly-fishing alive. |
