| July
is Hexagenia Hatch month. Hex hatches are big trout food. Hex's are to our local lakes what Salmon Flies are to the Deschutes River. They have the power to bring the largest trout to |

the surface where
they can be caught on dry flies.
There are four stages of this hatch that the angler should be aware of: nymph, emerger, dun and spinner. Hex nymphs can start leaving their burrows
as early as 7:00 in the evening and a nymph fished along the bottom can
get some strikes. Major feeding activity at the surface is the last hour
at dark. |
| Hexagenia are the largest may
flies which occur in the Northwest. Their nymphs burrow into silt of pure
lakes. These hatches occur late June to early August. Order The Top 5 Hex Fly Set With FREE Shipping! Hex photo from: Hatch Guide For Lakes by Jim Schollmyer |

Are there more than one specie of giant burrowing may fly in our local lakes? I would seem so. We have found two distinctly different sizes and at least one color variation. Some of our local lakes can be fun at dark. If you want to know more about Hexagenia hatches click here. |

Lately some serious
fly tiers such as Mark Bachmann, Bob Quigley, Mike Huffman and Brian
Silvey have given the Hex hatch a lot of attention. The Fly Fishing Shop

SPEY CASTING CLASSES This class is taught by Ron Lauzon and Leroy Teeple, who are both Oregon Licensed Guides and FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructors. Ron and Leroy have a combined total 22 years of fly casting experience. Both men are students of the art of fly casting and the art of teaching fly casting in the most understandable and efficient manner. Here is a spey casting school that comes in manageable classes. You can take any or all of the classes. We suggest that you take an Introductory class followed by an intermediate class to get the full understanding of spey casting. All classes are a maximum of 6 students. This
gives an instructors to student ratio of 3 students per instructor.
You will receive nearly constant hands-on help. |
|
INTRODUCTORY SPEY CASTING CLASS: This is the beginning. This class is about spey casting at its most rudimentary level and will provide a solid foundation to build upon. It is for those wanting to try spey casting for the first time or those who are struggling. | The Facts About Lightweight Rubber Net Bags |
![]() |
|
Rubber net bags are easier on the fish because they remove less body slime and scales than ordinary twine or nylon mesh bags. Because of this they are also easier to clean up. Usually several vigorous swishes in the water is all you need to keep your net smelling fresh. Those are the reasons why most of the up-scale trout guides on catch and release waters are using nets with rubber bags. The bag does weigh more (about half a pound), and creates more drag in the water while netting a fish. Most anglers agree these are small inconveniences when compared to healthier fisheries and less clean-up of gear. All Fisknat Nets are offered with a rubber net bag option. |
