| Western Oregon has a heavy snow pack and spring run-off seems like it might last most of the summer. I fished last week and commented to my client that it was a very nice day for February. With torrential rain and temperatures in the low fifties, it seemed like the middle of the winter. The river was high, rising and off color. Water temperature was in the mid-forties. I had dressed too light below the water line and wading was uncomfortable. I rigged my Sage 8129-4 Z-AXIS with a type-6 sinking tip and a big black and blue tube fly with lots of multi-colored flash and handed it to my customer. He invited me to fish behind him. I rarely turn down such an invitation. His first fish came to the fly about eight o'clock in the morning, the second a half hour later. Both came unpinned after some thrashing and head shaking. One was large. He stuck another fish just before lunch. It also came unhooked. Then we ate lunch. By this time the river was up nearly a foot higher than when we launched the boat. The next fish grabbed the fly in three feet of water, eight feet from the willows. At the time, the river was very brown and had lots of black specks of decaying leaves and woody debris roiling around in it. This fish came to the hand easily after a short fight. It had obviously been travelling all day and was tired, a phenomenon often involving high water. It was a hatchery summer steelhead and was bonked and dressed for dinner. A few minutes later a bait fishing guide floated past us advertising that the fishing conditions really sucked and that he wished the river would drop and clear. I thought to myself, "My client had hooked four steelhead and the river was nearly devoid of traffic...conditions were perfect". | |

A sunblock physically blocks the sun's UV radiation of the skin, both UVA and UVB. Examples of sunblocks are clothing, umbrellas, and trees. Chemical sunblocks scatter, reflect, and physically block UV radiation. Sunblocks lesson or prevent sunburn. Sunburn is thought to be a major cause of skin cancer. Whether or not preventing skin cancer is your major concern, we all know that sunburn is uncomfortable and peeling skin isn't regarded as pretty. In most of us, our skin develops its own UV inhibitors over a period of time. We tan. It is |
| when we drastically change amounts of sunlight that we are at the most risk of getting sunburnt, such as moving indoors to outdoors or changing elevations from high to low or latitudes from temperate to tropical. The Extreme Elements Products on this page are proven to us in the field. | |
