Reservoir Local reports talk of big catches this year on Chickhominy. This is one place where fly anglers do as well as bait anglers. Rainbows up to 22" have been reported this spring with fish in the 16" range being average. Early season flies are Wooly Buggers, Leeches and Water Boatmen. Float tubes & pontoon boats are an advantage during the middle of the day. Wading anglers do well during early morning and late evenings when fish patrol the shoreline. |

Chickahominy Reservoir is located on Hwy 20 between Bend and Burns, Oregon. It was built as an irrigation reservoir, but is now managed by Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife as a recreational fishery. The lake sits in the wide open and
is exposed to harsh wind. As a matter of fact the wind blows nearly
everyday from Chickahominy has a very strong food chain. Leeches seem to predominate in the early season diet, but Water Boatmen and Chironomids are also very important. Chironomid hatches frequently come off in the very early morning. All manner of floating devices work well on this lake. There is enough surface acres that a boat is handy. Float tubes and pontoon boats fish well in this lake until the wind comes up. Hiking and wading is also very productive. |
