| Skagit Short vs. Switch Airflo Switch Line Rio Skagit Short |
|
|
Spey rods used for steelhead are still evolving. In many cases anglers
prefer rods in the 11' to 13' length because they are lighter in weight
and more maneuverable where casting room is restricted by the terrain or
streamside vegetation. If you need to get under overhanging limbs,
Switch Rods and very short Spey Rods are handy for opening up new
territory to you. Anglers used to think that a shooting head three times
the length of the rod was ideal. Now heads that are 2 1/2 times the
length of the rod are commonly used effectively. The two lines featured below have hit it big in the Short Spey / Switch Rod arena. both lines are 20' long or shorter. Both are comfortable when heavy sinking tips are attached to dredge deep with large weighted flies. |

The need had become blatantly obvious--a shorter head to match the
now extremely popular Switch rods, and shorter Spey rods. But the
"right" line to match these versatile tools had been unavailable,
until now. The new Skagit Switch line hits the mark dead on. Shorter
in length than the Airflo Skagit Compact, this new addition to the
Skagit group of lines vary from 18' to 20' with 7 sizes ranging from
360 to 540 grains. Designed to load fast action switch rods in tight
casting situations, move 10' to 12' of sink tip, and reach out to
hit the "zone". Looped at both ends for ease of use, the front loop
has the line size clearly marked for easy identification. The Mint
Green color keeps the line visible and controllable at any distance.
Couple this with your favorite
Shooting Line and you have the pinnacle of switch
casting setups. Line come packaged with Airflo Line Pouch that clips
into the
Airflo Head Wallet. Mint Green color.

| Rio Skagit Short Shooting Heads for casting in tight places. | |
| These are the lines for fishing sinking tips with Switch Rods and short Spey Rods. Short Heads are also for longer rods and heavier rods being used in tight places, such as working under trees on the deep sizes of runs. Casting in tight places can result in a lot of "Bloody Ells" unless the total head length is shortened to match your swing-length. Rods with fast actions work well in these situations because they allow even shorter stroke lengths. Skagit Short Heads work well when M.O.W. Tips are added, especially when working smaller rivers. Heavier Skagit Short Heads combine well with many lengths of T-14 and T-17 for reaching down into the boulders. |

| Skagit Shorts are Skagit lines designed for shorter rods, both single-hand and switch rods. The heads on these lines are 20' (6,2m) long (the perfect ratio for rods between 9' and 11') while head weights are light enough for rods down to 5-weight. The line is bright green. As with all other shooting heads, a shooting line needs to be added, and as with all other Skagit lines, a front tip needs to be added to complete the set up. | |

Feedback On
Airflo Skagit Intermediate Last week in "The Insider" we ran an article on the new Airflo Skagit compact Intermediate shooting heads. Marcy got this email from a happy customer in the mid-west. We love to get these kinds of emails and pictures of beautiful fish like the one below. Thank you happy customers. Keep 'em coming. |

Hi Marcy,
I wanted to give you a
report on the Airflo Tactical Intermediate line. IT'S AWESOME!!!
Glad I spent the $$ to have it sent to me. I was fishing on the
Manistee River in Michigan with a friend and from the minute that line
hit the water I knew this is the line I'd been looking for.
Michigan had had some warm temps on Wednesday that melted most of the
14" of snow they had gotten the Friday before, so, on top of everything
else, the water levels were rising, up to 3,500 cfs on the Manistee at
Welston, MI compared to normal fishing conditions of 2,000 (+ or -
200cfs for ideal conditions). Thursday on the river was 32
degrees, very raw wind with on and off snow all day. My friend was
using a traditional skagit line which was hovering on the surface and
bellying as is usually the case, especially with the water volume and
strong current. The Airflo got below all of that and tracked
beautifully. I had 10' of T-14 with 4' of 8lbs Maxima for a
leader. I caught this nice 10lbs at 3:00pm on..........THE LADY
GAGA INTRUDER!!! Great tube fly, thanks for all you help, I'm
impressed with this line. If you recall, it was the 570 grains and
I was using a Sage Z-Axis 1364, no problem casting all that weight and
fly.
Regards,
Mike Gabrion
