Cobia and pompano were hot today and a lot of permit around. We jumped 2 nice tarpon yesterday in the backcountry. Big Jacks are roaming in schools of several hundred and are easy targets for beginners. The pompano today were awesome, every cast.
Here is a picture of my friend Indio holding a 9-pound
jack that he caught yesterday.

| Record days without rain have left western Oregon streams low and very clear with many steelhead anglers crying the blues. You know how some anglers love to cry the blues. Others just capitolize on the lack of competition and the knowledge that the fish populations are going to be more condensed due to the lack of diversified holding places. Tiny flies, 3X tippets and a 6-weight rod are the combination the pays off for my buddy Jay (above). He knows how to make his guide look good. Thank goodness. You know some guides need it. |

What is the Sandy River Spey Clave? It's the most copied spey casting program in the world. It's a gathering of anglers interested in two-hand fly rod fishing. It's a format for the exchange of spey casting & fishing information. It's a free spey casting college open to everyone. It's a show for your entertainment. It's a place to rub elbows with the best spey casters and steelhead anglers in the World! Has been termed, "The Woodstock of spey casting events"! This year there will be a number of fly tackle rep groups to put on a show specifically for the spey casting fraternity. Jon Covich (Winston, Patagonia) |
