2011--women’s classes taught by a woman!
Come spend a day learning
all the essential basics of fly fishing. This beginner
level class will focus on starting at square one and taking
the angler through basic knot tying, fly selection, basic
entomology, how to set up a rod, reel and line, casting,
fishing presentation, and fish fighting techniques. The
full focus of this class is to make each student an
independent angler by the end of the day.
The class
will be taught by our own
Marcy Stone--local
guide, tier, and Fly Fishing Shop employee. With Marcy’s high
energy yet easy to learn style of teaching, this class is
perfect for women looking to get into the sport, or is a great

What: 3 evenings with Rick Hafele
discussing how to fish the West’s best hatches. |
|||
|
|
|||
|
Want
a head start in 2011 by getting prepared to fish the best hatches found
throughout the West? Then sign up for this workshop by the well known
fly fishing author, instructor, and aquatic entomologist Rick Hafele.
The class will cover patterns and tactics, plus insect and trout
behavior for the most important hatches of mayflies, caddisflies, and
stoneflies, and a few others! To provide the best opportunity to cover
this topic, the workshop will be held one night a week for three weeks,
with each evening running about one and half hours long. With this
format participants will have time to digest the wealth of information
provided in each class and time to ask plenty of questions. Some of the key questions addressed in the workshop will include: What stages of the hatch do trout target - when and why? What patterns best match the different stages of mayfly, stonefly, and caddisfly hatches? How should you fish nymphs, emergers, and dries for the most important western hatches? What are the key mistakes most anglers make? What triggers the timing of hatches and when do key hatches occur? The presentations at these workshops will include PowerPoint projections, open fly boxes, etc. |

Good Bye Old
Freind Fishing tackle manufacturer Bob Dennison lost his with his fight with ALS January 21, 2011. A machinist/tool & die maker by trade, Bob sidelined as an inventor. He started in the Fishing industry in early 1970's with the Dennison Leader Dispenser, Knot vise, Vests, Omni boxes, Pole Stands, stackers, Forward Motion Fins & of course a wide variety of hand machined Dennison Fishing reels including Fly Lite. We will miss his enthusiasm towards life! Bob & his wife Sue were married for 42 years. |

Sage IS the leader
in two-hand steelhead rods.
This is because of their unique understanding
of steelhead, steelhead rivers and steelhead fishermen. Sage is
also the leader in two-hand rods designed with King Salmon in mind.
One of the guys that leads this advisory committee is George Cook,
pictured here fishing out of Alaska West Lodge on the Kanektok
River, with an 8129-4 Z-AXIS. This rod has the butt strength to
pressure fish that weigh over 50-pounds, yet incorporates enough
sensitivity to be useful as a steelhead rod. It's shorter powerful
flex loads easy to throw very large flies without casting fatigue; a
rod to fill the nitch. 8129-4 Z-AXIS is proven. |
|
Sage 2-Handed Z-AXIS
Specifications & Prices High-Gloss olive colored with gold trim. Highest grade cork handles with rubberized cork butts. High gloss black anodized, machined & polished, double lock ring reel seats are standard. Sage went back to the drawing board to create the incredible Z-Axis Series Fast Action Rods. By improving the entire rod-building process, |
|
![]() |
they created a rod that's
significantly lighter, stronger and easier to cast for anglers of
all skill levels. The Z-Axis offers an entirely new level of
fishability with unprecedented line feel, response and performance.
These rods are medium-fast and have slightly stiffer butts. They handle the full range of fly line types (long, medium, short heads) and will suite casters of all skill levels. Pictured: Patty Barnes, Klickitat River. |

The Mighty Mite of the Sage Z-AXIS Spey Series.
The new 5126-4 Z-AXIX is ideally suited for such rivers as the Rogue,
Grand Ronde and Deschutes. It is also very effective as a trout
rod. Josh Linn uses this rod for steelhead year around and has landed
many large fish with it. Light weight two-handers such as the 5126-4
Z-AXIS are gaining popularity as big water rods. |

Fast action spey rod. This is a longer
brother to the 8129-4. This "Power-Rod" is a favorite stick for Kings in
Alaska and winter steelhead in the Pacific Northwest. Long casts come
surprisingly easy with minimum effort. George Cook says he likes
a Rio 550 Skagit for this rod the best. Some casters like a 540-grain
Airflo Skagit Compact even better. I liked the feel of this rod better
when it is loaded deeper, so a 570-grain Skagit Compact or a 575-grain
Skagit Flight feels better to me. This combination generates an
incredible burst of energy at the end of the cast. I have this rod
rigged in the boat with 12'-14' of T-17 for fishing big flies in deeper
water. |

Termed by George Cook, "The
Death Star" of spey rods." The name really caught on. George has
already taken some massive Alaskan Kings, and big bobos with it, as well
as several Dean River steelhead. Mark Bachmann has fished this rod for
ten sessions on the Deschutes and says, "If you are into generating line
speed, you will love this lightweight rod. Don't think this rod is just
for expert casters. Beginning Spey casters adapt to this rod easily.
Because it lacks all of the harsh aspects of its predecessors, it is
exceptionally easy to time. Because this rod is on the cutting edge,
anyone who fishes this rod will naturally become a better caster. This
may be the best ever steelhead/salmon rod by any manufacturer for
fishing in the wind. The 7126-4 TCX is like nothing else you have ever
fished with, and will become a pivotal mark in the scientific
progression of steelhead rod design." The
