Try A Spey Rod & Spey Line Before You Buy!
Have you wondered if another line might make your spey rod perform better? Maybe you are lusting for a new spey outfit, but are hesitant to spend the money because you are not quite sure if it is really what you want. Or maybe you are simply curious about different spey rod/ spey line combinations. We have an affordable program that will solve your problems and answer your questions. You can rent the most popular models of Sage Rods and multitude of Rio, Airflo and Scientific Angler spey lines from us for trial. Line/Reel Combos and Rods are rented on a per day basis. A reel rents for $25 per day. Each spey line also rents for $25 per day. Each spey rod rents for $50 per day. One half of your total rental fee is issued as credit towards the purchase of a spey rod, reel or line. Credit expires after three days. A deposit for the full value of the equipment rented, will be charged to your credit card. The customer’s credit card will be credited when the equipment is returned. Fees for rental fee, late fees and/or charges for damaged equipment will be deducted from this credit.

Spey Rods: The Adaptable Nine Weights
In the Pacific Northwest, spey rods are fished year round. Within a years fishing for steelhead and salmon, the angler will encounter encounter a wide range of fishing conditions. We are often asked this question, " If I had only one spey rod to fish year round; what would be the best choice for length and line weight?" During a recent on-the-water spey casting school, George Cook called "9-weights" the 30-06 of spey rods. In recent correspondence with Simon Gawsworth, he noted that 14'-#9 spey rods were the most popular single size, world wide. That about sums it up. Here are the 36 most popular spey rods used in the Pacific Northwest. They are grouped for your convenience so that you can compare one against another and choose accordingly. Our staff at The Fly Fishing Shop has a great deal of experience fishing large rivers for steelhead with two-handed spey rods.

TUF LINE XP - Braided Fly Line Backing
NEW LOWER PRICE!

Possibly the most advanced braided fly line backing available for most applications. TUF LINE is braided from super strong "Gel-Spun" Spectra fibers, TUF LINE XP is incredibly smaller in diameter than equal strength backing braided from Dacron yet is supple and without stretch. XP is braided with a new aerospace technology called "Tension Lock" for even smaller diameter, smoothness and abrasion resistance. Thirty pound test XP is .011 in diameter. That is the same about the same diameter as 8-pound test Maxima Chameleon tippet material. Add another .001 and the strength nearly doubles to 50-pound test. That is the approximate diameter of 10-pound test Maxima. This small diameter increases the backing capacity of every fly reel and reduces backing drag in the water. XP lays down very smooth. There doesn't seem to be any tendency for XP to cut down into itself or cause reel spool breakage even when 500 yards are loaded onto a spool. Thirty pound XP is half the diameter of 30-pound Micron. Fifty pound XP is about 2/3 the diameter of 30-pound Micron. Bright yellow color.
