Tube flies have gained popularity in fly fishing for steelhead, salmon and saltwater fish. |
|
![]() |
Tube flies are accepted world wide and each geographic area and culture exerts its influence on how tubes are made and how they are employed. All sizes of flies are tied on tubes. Currently, tube fly sizes range from tiny trout flies to huge billfish flies. Salmon and steelhead tube flies have been going through a period of constant evolution for the last 10-years. This fueled by a cross pollenization of Scandinavian, UK and Pacific Northwest tying and fishing styles. The most obvious advantage of using tube flies is being able to size the fly and the hook |
| independently. This approach has proven to be most beneficial when larger than average flies are employed. In the case of steelhead flies, the tube fly approach has allowed them to become much larger and lighter in weight. Directions for tying Scandi Tube Flies with F.I.T.S tubing... | |

| Mikael Frödin and Håkan Norling
have used these flexible plastic tubes for more than 20 years. Today, they
are the standard for modern tube flies used in Scandinavia. The tubing
is available in four sizes; X-small, Small, Medium and Large. The sizes
fit into each other. There is no need for extra tubing to steer the hook.
It fits directly into these flexible tubes. The material is smooth and
unaffected by temperatures, it won't crack in the cold and it works equally
well with fixed or a loose hook. The dimensions of the tubes are
synchronized to work with cone heads. That way, you will get well-balanced
flies with the right weight to turn over your cast and make the fly fish
most efficiently. TUBING COMBINATIONS X-Small: Fits with Medium tubing and together with standard cone heads or tungsten cones. Small: Fits the Large tubing and HMH cone heads. Medium: All round tube. Large: For large tubes. F.I.T.S. Turbo Cones and F.I.T.S. Tungsten Cones are now available FLUORESCENT IMPROVED TUBE FLY SYSTEM – F.I.T.S These fluorescent plastic tubes are the single most important news in materials for tube flies, since the arrival of Flashabou!! The release of these tubes on the market has changed the look of modern tube flies forever. By using the tubes as they are, or combining them with dubbing or translucent material, you can create a shine to the flies, unlike anything else. The tubing itself contains a lot of fluorescence, which makes it glow very well in low light conditions. By burning a Fl. Orange tube, together with a black Cone head, you will create a fluorescent orange band at |
||||
| the front of
the Cone. The popular making of riffle-tubes now also becomes more
exciting. A simple thing like using a small piece of fluorescent tubing in
front of a free hanging hook, gives a new exciting look to your fly.
Tubing comes in one meter lengths. To facilitate tying with this tubing, we suggest a tapered needle. |

the cone in place. These "large bore"
cones fit over several types of tubing. They are most often
used with Hard Plastic tubes.
Temple Dog style flies take on very seductive actions when front weighted
with a heavy cone. Saltwater squid and minnow imitations also
assume "duck & dive" actions when tied with these cones.

Owner Hooks Co. Ltd was established in 1974 and their mission policy was “Perfection In Hooks”, a motto the company still strives for today. CUTTING POINT® HOOKS - Owner's revolutionary triple-edge design is what put the Owner name and its product line on the map. The unique, patented hook design is led by a needle sharp point, and as the hook begins to penetrate, the resistance actually decreases as the three edges cut their way through for an instant, positive hook-set. The machining process that renders this unique point requires extra steps and thus extra expense. Owner hooks are expensive, but give extra advantages, |
| so they are worth it to many experienced anglers. While other hook manufacturers claim their hooks to be sharp, or sharpest, Owner CUTTING POINT® hooks are the only hooks designed specifically with instant penetration as the primary design feature. |
|
Owner Fly Liner Hooks No expense has been spared. These hooks are very finely crafted. Designed as a saltwater hook for fishing live bait, this aggressive design features the Owner Cutting Edge Point. The black chrome finish provides a very smooth, abrasion-free finish for the leader connection to the eye. They are reasonably easy to sharpen after contact with a river bottom. Short shank, Standard gap, no off-set, cutting edge point, very sharp, micro barb, forged, ball eye, black chrome finish. |
