Spruce Fly

Some classic streamers don't look like any known baitfish or other living organism, but are still very productive on sport fish. Flies in this category are commonly called "Attractor Patterns". The Royal Coachman, Mickey Finn and Spruce are prime examples. They don't look like anything that lives, but they still catch fish and always will. They are especially productive on steelhead, kamloops and sea run cutthroat. They are also very popular as trolling flies in lakes.

The beautiful Mickey Finn is as productive on Brook Trout and bass as when first developed in the 1920's and popularize by the prominent angling writer, John Alden Knight.  Reportedly Knight wrote an article about the fly in a magazine which hit the news stands in the fall of 1937.  The publication date corresponded to the opening of the New York
