Bonefish Bitters Craig Mathews invented this pattern and named "Pops Bonefish Bitters, after Winston "Pops" Cabral — who is one of the favorite guides at Turneffe Flats Lodge in Belize. | working with his family as a commercial fisherman in the Turneffe Islands at age 14, and remembers spending holidays on a Caye at the south tip of Turneffe which disappeared during Hurricane Hattie in 1961. Pops says bonefishing is his favorite fishing. Guiding is special for Pops, and he takes his fishing seriously. An accomplished fly caster, Pops was born and raised in Belize City. | |
| Bonefish Bitters, Amber This small crab fly was invented at Turneffe Flats Lodge on the Turneffe Atoll, Belize. The original fly had a hot glue head which was prone to melt and disfigure if left exposed in a fly box in the hot tropical sun. These flies are made by a much more expensive method which uses epoxy for the head. This make a much more durable and even more effective fly. |
