Olga Koran offering encouragement to a younger spey caster...
Olga Koran at the 2006 Sandy River Spey Clave...

Olga Koran caught her first fish on the fly at age 6, trolling a sedge behind a canoe.  Presently a high school senior, she doesn’t get much opportunity to fish but when she does, she often out-fishes her much more experienced dad.  She enjoys trout fishing in Central Oregon and Yellowstone.  She has raised several steelhead to dry flies on the North Umpqua, but has yet to land one.

Olga loves spey casting, and is a charter member of the North Santiam Spey Casters.  At the age of 15 in 2006, in Idaho, she became one of the first women to demonstrate at a spey clave.  Olga is sponsored by C.F. Burkheimer Fly Rods, and in 2008 she took third place at the International Spey-O-Rama in San Francisco.

Having benefited from numerous instructors, especially Al Buhr, Olga welcomes opportunities to give back and share with others.  A frequent attendee at the Sandy Spey Clave, Olga can typically be found testing rods or helping other women and youth in the grass casting area.  This year she is thrilled to be an on-the-water demonstrator, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for spey casting.
