Rachel Andras has a gift for turning first impressions into lasting ones
with everyone she meets. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, her older
brothers would alternate treating her to facials with sweaty gym socks and
taking her fishing at the local pond. From a young age, Rachel’s Mom
recognized how her daughter would light up a room full of relatives or
relative strangers and acted on it. Before long, advertising
executives discovered her, and Rachel found herself in front of the camera
for nationally televised McDonald’s commercials, promotional films for
United Van Lines, and the National Football League’s product catalog.
Despite her early acting/modeling success, Rachel never wavered from her
love of people and community, graduating from East Carolina University with
a degree in health education. Mountain streams and native brook trout of western North Carolina fueled Rachel’s second love in life. Fly fishing brought reflections of a high school trip to Colorado to the surface and eventually led her out west where her classroom focus shifted from human anatomy to the anatomy of trout streams. Once in the business, Rachel quickly earned a loyal following at the local fly shop followed by national recognition at The Fly Shop. She studied casting under Mel Krieger, became a certified casting instructor through the FFF, directed countless casting classes and schools for all ages, and placed in the top three of the ISE’s (International Sportsmen’s Expo) “Best in the West” casting competition several years running. In April of 2000, in an effort to give back to the community and involve more women in fly fishing, Rachel invited all interested to meet at a local coffee shop. Twenty women showed up and today, nearly 100 Shasta Mayflies celebrate fishing and friendship together. After years of perfecting loops and presentation, in 2004 Rachel drew the attention of Scott Fly Rods and Scientific Anglers and signed on as a pro staff representative for both companies. The following year, Fly Water Travel, a growing fly fishing travel company in Ashland, Oregon recruited her and today, she advises anglers on the best fishing destinations worldwide. Recently, she returned to work in front of the camera on tarpon flats somewhere for the Location X chapter of the acclaimed television series, “Chasing Silver.” And as only as Rachel can, she made quite an impression. www.andrasoutfitters.com |
